What is Freestyle Trampoline?
Learn about the new action sport, freestyle trampoline, its athletes and events both past and present and where the sport is heading.
The Freestyle Trampoline World Championships is a new extreme action sports event and the world’s first freestyle trampoline competition, set to hit the stage in London, UK on August 4, at the historic Round Chapel. In its inaugural year, twenty of the world’s best freestyle athletes will compete and showcase their immense talent in a spectacular setting. This counter culture movement, much like skateboarding in the 70s, is shaking up the traditional trampoline industry. Coined “The Sport Born On Instagram” this movement is a community of young athletes who are proud to be self-taught and create a global sports movement.
The Freestyle Trampoline Association (FTA) has partnered with former Red Bull Global Head of Sports, Sigurd Meiche, to bring the World Champs to the international action sports stage on a spectacular level.
“Our goal is to create a freestyle competition that is a perfect playground for the world’s best athletes, showcasing their very best and pushing the boundaries of the sport. The FTA is creating a breathtaking and speak-about event; going beyond what has been done before,” states Sigurd Meiche.
Ten athletes have already pre-qualified to compete, with ten more spots still open through qualifying events held across Europe. Airtime Trampoline Park in Nuremburg, will host the first qualifier on May 1, 2022. “We are honoured to be a part of the FTA World Championships. Airtime wishes to further the sport of freestyle trampoline, making it popular and safe for all,” says Kilian Langer (Airtime).
The ‘Official Trampoline Supplier’ of the event is German based, EUROTRAMP, the Olympic trampoline supplier, who have created a custom 5 x 5 m freestyle trampoline to provide the athletes a platform for more complicated skills, not easily accomplished on a traditional trampoline.
“For over 60 years, it has been our goal to build the best and highest quality trampolines in the world,” says Head of Sales, Rudiger Mosel. “The entire design, production and quality assurance takes place exclusively at our Headquarters in Weilheim,” Mosel adds.
The FTA World Champs is a culmination of the past 6 years of events hosted by the FTA under the guidance of former Team Canada Traditional Trampolinist, Greg Roe. This gathering of the world’s best athletes is intended to help raise awareness for the emerging sport of freestyle trampoline and inspire a new generation of trampoline athletes around the world!
